Terrible Things at Vans Warped Tour (by dackalac)
Really excited about this band!
#TerribleTuesday 06.28.11 video: Josh Eppard and Fred Mascherino playing an acoustic instrumental piece written by Josh- both on guitar!
Catch these guys live this summer on the 2011 Vans Warped Tour! Terrible Things are playing the Ernie Ball Stage all tour long. Josh Eppard is also performing earlier in the day as Weerd Science on the Skullcandy Stage with MC Lars.
We’re playing with The Wonder Years tonight, who had a new album come out today. We also released our official video for “Conspiracy”. Everything is over at our website: www.terriblethings.net. Can’t wait to play tonight and then head out on Warped!!!
Terrible Things have a new website up, www.weareterriblethings.net. Taking a hint from John The Baker who’s been hashtagging tuesdays on twitter for the past year as, #TerribleTuesday, the Terrible crew now plan on posting a new video on their website every Tuesday to celebrate #TerribleTuesdays.
Turning a new leaf without the support of Universal-Motown Records, Terrible Things appear to be filling the vocal/guitar void left by Andy Jackson by allowing more of drummer, Josh Eppard’s, talents to shine.
Terrible Things, now a three-piece (Fred Mascherino, Josh Eppard, Brian Weaver), are working on brand new material as an independent band, and are prepping for the 2011 Vans Warped Tour.
Josh Eppard will be performing twice every date on Warped. Once drumming with Terrible Things, and once rocking the mic as only Weerd Science can on the SkullCandy Stage with MC Lars.
Weerd Science’s long-awaited sophomore album, Sick Kids, was released May 17th.
Weerd Science also makes an appearance on the Warped Tour 2011 Compilation CD in the song, “Sound of My Voice,” a collaboration with tour-mate, Big Chocolate. The CD comes out June 7th.
Additionally, Weerd Science will be featured on the Horris Records mixtape, a Warped Tour exclusive. KRS-One, Grieves, Sole, MC Frontalot, Rittz, Scroobius Pip, and MC Lars also make appearances on the mixtape.

PropertyOfZack revealed the Hot Rod Circuit portion of our interview with Andy Jackson just the other day, but we’re happy to be releasing the other section regarding Terrible Things and Death In The Park today. Andy and I discussed the circumstances behind his exit from Terrible Things, label issues, new Death In The Park music, touring, and more. It’s very informative on the situation, so read up.
I guess we’ll start with the obvious: Nearly a month ago you announced your departure from Terrible Things. Briefly after that, Josh Eppard did an interview with us stating that it wasn’t exactly your call and you mildly rebutted by saying there are two sides to every story. What’s your side?
He said a lot of things that made sense and that weren’t false. It’s just three or four weeks before that Fred and I had talked and we knew we were getting dropped from the label and I’d just been contemplating the band in itself anyway because we weren’t making any money. I’ve got three kids, an ex-wife, and a dog and a life as well. I had a band, Death In The Park, that was doing okay before we even started Terrible Things and I put it on hold as well as my life for that band and all we did was spend money. Not that being in a band is about money, but when I say no money, I mean I made $0 being in that band. I spent probably $20,000 being in that band. I spent my savings and did everything I could because I believed in the band. Nothing was panning out. Every band I’ve ever been in has found a way somehow to make some kind of money to survive. Maybe it was because we were on a major label and didn’t have the same opportunities to do things the way we wanted to as much, but it just didn’t seem like things were really panning out. I needed a change in my life; I had a lot of things going on. I know that some personal stuff got brought up about a relationship that I was in and about some things that were going down. I don’t mind talking about those things, but I don’t want to trash talk anybody. I wasn’t on drugs, but I was going through a destructive path in my life where I needed a complete change. I took the time to sit back and look at things and I wanted to do something in my life and become something more positive. I was really tired of being where I was and people kept coming to me every day and asked why I wasn’t singing and why I wasn’t doing this and why Death In The Park wasn’t doing that, and after you hear that so many times, it made me think maybe I should do Death In The Park or Hot Rod. I’ve written music my whole life and I’ve worked at it for so long and I just started to miss it.
Fred Mascherino played an acoustic show on Friday, May 13th at The Note in Westchester. Below is his tumblr post complete with the setlist! Looks like The Color Fred is battle testing some new Terrible Things tunes!
The next Fred acoustic show is Friday, June 3rd at Planet Trog in Whitehall, PA.
If you live near Folsom, PA- Fred is giving guitar lessons at the new Let There Be Rock School. Great opportunity to learn from the man, himself! Lessons are running up until Warped Tour. http://tinyurl.com/3qdcb4l
Terrible Things will be performing on the full Warped Tour, electric, as a three piece. Drummer, Josh Eppard, will also be performing a hip-hop set at the Skull Candy stage as Weerd Science.

The news that Andy Jackson had left Terrible Things shocked many, and PropertyOfZack was lucky enough to be able to talk to Josh Eppard from the band yesterday to clear some things up. Josh and I discussed the events that lead up to Jackson’s departure, what side was in charge of making the decision, how they will continue on with him, and more. Please read up on it to get a better sense of the situation, however unfortunate it may be.
Last night Andy Jackson announced to the world that he was no longer a member of Terrible Things. When did Andy inform you and Fred of his decision?
Well, it was me that informed him that he would no longer be in the band. There are a lot of things when you’re in a band, and he lives pretty far away. I don’t really care how people take it. Andy didn’t quit the band; it just kind of happened. I know that that seems like a very kind of convenient thing to say, but he was really far away. We toured as much as we possibly could. We toured pretty non-stop. There was a good seven month block there where we were only home for collectively two or three weeks. It just got to the point where we didn’t know how it was going to work when people lived so far from each other. I don’t know how much I’m permitted to say. Terrible Things is a band. I don’t want to say the wrong things. When you have a record label that is helping to cover those costs things are a lot easier. Terrible Things has been met with a lot of adversity lately in the way that we don’t know if we’re going to be with Universal anymore. Well, I know we’re not going to be. We’re basically dropped from Universal. We’re going to continue on. I just called Andy and had a heart to heart and we just kind of both figured that it didn’t make sense. He’s got other things going on. I realize there are a lot of vague things in there. I don’t want to say anything to upset anybody. Andy didn’t quit the band, and in the same sense he wasn’t fired. It just really had to stop, if that makes any sense.
Alternative Press:
It was just about a decade ago when JOSH EPPARD rose to fame alongside his friends from Kingston, New York, as the original drummer for COHEED AND CAMBRIA. As the band began receiving notoriety for their experimental epic rock, Eppard released a hip-hop album under the name WEERD SCIENCE—the moniker he had been using as an emcee since he was a teenager. But struggles with drug addiction pushed Eppard out of Coheed and away from music for years before finally joining up with Fred Mascherino and Andy Jackson in TERRIBLE THINGS. Now nearly two years sober, Eppard has joined up with likeminded MC LARS to finally release the follow-up to Weerd Science’s 2005 debut, Friends & Nervous Breakdowns. Sick Kids will finally be released May 17 on MC Lars’ label, Horris Records, and in this exclusive interview, MC Lars finds out exactly what took so long. Wanna pitch in? You can help out Weerd Science by donating to the just-launched Kickstarter page.

If you guys get the chance to see Josh as his rapping alter ego, Weerd Science during his small tour over in England or Warped, you really should - it’s something different all together.

Then you should take advantage of this post with the links to their blogs and start doing so. Fred and Andy.

Terrible Things have unfortunately had to drop off of their current tour with Streetlight Manifesto and A Loss For Words. The band will keep their March tour and Warped Tour spots however. Check out a message from the band below:
We’re heading home from our tour. Although it was a tough decision, some personal issues and setbacks we suffered early in the tour made our minds up last night. Our apologies to all of you coming out. We’ll find a way to make it up to you. We’re still looking forward to other shows in March and we’ll be touring again this summer for Warped.
