Editing the Release Calendar is always a pleasure! Moved Weerd Science SiKiEmily Long’s Dirty Face from the “awaiting release” section to the calendar! Latest update on 3- they’re finishing up the mix. Before you know it, their new album will be listed on the calendar too! Looks like APPLEHEAD RECORDING & PRODUCTION is pumping out the majority of thefamily3’s releases in 2011! ♥

Which record are you most looking forward to hearing?

the main pages of aKt are offline due to a surge in visitors to the site this month. We need $ to get back online and stay up! Please make a donation (seriously, even 2 cents helps)

While it’s really exciting that there’s been so much traffic to the site, we are unable to personally afford the few bucks it takes to double aKt’s bandwidth to ensure this doesn’t happen again.  Either way, thanks again for supporting thefamily3’s homebase on the web!  <3

The aKt listing of places to grab thefamily3 merch has been updated.  We added the new Terrible Things store as well as The Flatline Symphony’s.

TONIGHT we’re gettin’ a new, free Weerd Science song! Chat about it around the campfire :)

by soundtrack architect, Jeffrey Fayman.  For more info and to download the song, visit http://www.thehumanexperimente.com/.  By the way, you may recognize this tune from a sample in Kanye West’s 2010 single, “Power.”  The song originally appears on King Crimson’s 1969 classic debut record, In the Court of the Crimson King.

Reblog via impermeable:

the human experimente has been designed as a project, much in the style of a collective series release, presenting grandly cinematic structured songs-compositions conceived to sound like music for imaginary films.

the styles of the songs will range from intensely dramatic industrial rock, to beautifully melodic –and almost operatic– themes. the executive producer/composer/creator behind the human experimente is emmy award winning musician/composer jeffrey fayman. fayman primarily works in the motion picture industry with immediate music, composing cinematic trailer music for the advertising campaigns that promote many of hollywood’s biggest blockbuster feature films and highly rated television programs, tv movies and specials.

other artists involved are john wetton (asia / king crimson), adrian belew (king crimson), anneke van giersbergen (the gathering) and dann pursey (globus / vantan). various additional artists will be joining the collective within the near future.

Thank you for a great year!  Though conceived in early 2008, A Thousand Torches was born in April 2010.  Our glimmering presence existed as merely a tumblelog, but with donations contributed, we’ve been able to bring aKt closer to the complete vision of the website.  Our Den (resource / archive) and Campsite (community bulletin board forum) are in development, and we’ve been in the habit of posting a rare thefamily3 song for download each month.  Over 300 pages currently exist in the Den and over 500 snippets have been shared on the Tumblelog!  During that time we’ve also begun to build an extensive collection of interviews, lyrics, detailed discographies…  there’s a wealth of information just waiting to be uncovered!  And plenty more to come!  As 3 goes into their 18th year of being a band and gets ready to release their 7th album, www.athousandtorches.com is prepared to be there!

We here at aKt look forward to spending another year with YOU as well as our favorite music!  Stay safe and have a healthy new year!  A Thousand Torches wouldn’t exist without its community.  <3

Reblog via theneesh:

The new record seems to be just about at the half-way point.

-The songs have been solidified in the pre-production stage.
-Now in the Production phase… The groove has been fully laid down by Gartdrumm and Daniel. (they tweeted that when the two wrapped recording their parts)
-Some guitars and vocals are done, but it looks like that’s what’s left. Oh, and any additional instruments. Keys, strings, whatever. Would be cool if Gart’s Gong, Applehead’s Wurlitzer, Mike Boom’s sitar made appearances . Plus in the post-production there’s mixing, mastering, artwork, duplication, distribution… Not to mention promo.

Definitely can’t rush the process, but I’m really excited to hear!

3’s been performing about 4 new songs at their shows. I snagged some video clips, but I wouldn’t recommend listening to them because they came out so muddy that the quality could really ruin a first impression, but the band posted some studio clips-

Billy and Gartdrumm working on “The Barrier” in the live room at Applehead Studio

Chris Bittner and Billy working on “Sparrow” in the control room at Applehead Studio

The songs I’ve heard feel like a very natural progression from The End is Begun. I really can’t wait to hear the final product, and I think it’s so cool that 3’s original bassist (from 1993-2001) is engineering/producing!
