Vuvuzela needs your preorder!  They have raised 70% toward the costs of recording their debut EP.  If 100%+ isn’t pledged in 61 hours- then the group will receive NOTHING (as per Kickstarter’s system).

Vuvuzela is the first original project to rise from the ashes of Kiss Kiss, as the rest of members joined forces with previous tourmates: Damiera, The Gay Blades The Venetia Fair, The World/Inferno Friendship Society).

Please support this unique DIY musical project.

Vuvuzela has 5 days left to raise the funding for their debut release! Watch the video to get a feel for the project, and help them out!

The Southwest has SXSW in the spring, but the Northeast has the CMJ Marathon in the fall.  Artists from all strides (this year, about 1,200) pack into 75 venues (spanning from tiny loft-type spaces all the way to Madison Square Garden) all in the city that never sleeps.  The festival attracts music connoisseurs, music industry folks, college radio workers, filmmakers, and of course- press for the 5 days it runs.  U2, R.E.M., Nirvana, Green Day, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Muse, White Stripes, The Killers, Justice, and Lady Gaga, are some of the names who’ve garnered the next level of attention at CMJs in the past.

The “trash pop” group is typically a duo consisting of James Dean Wells (aka Clark Westfield - vocals, guitar) and Quinn English (aka Puppy Mills - vocals, drums), but recently they began bringing Mike Abiuso (Kiss Kiss, The Mayor) out with them on keyboard.  Abiuso also performed on Savages.

Kiss Kiss is now on hiatus, however, they are still rockin’.

Lead singer/songwriter, Josh Benash, announced that he and two other members of the band have started a currently unnamed project.  He’s joined by Rebecca Schlappich on violin & vocals as well as James O’Keeffe on upright bass.  This new group also features a harp player, Stephanie Babirak.  Ben Goldstein is on drums.  They will be making their debut during the 2010 CMJ Marathon on October 19th at Alphabet Lounge 6:30pm.

Drummer, Jared Karns, is now performing with Equal Vision Records’ Damiera.

Guitarist/synthesizer/vocalist, Mike Abiuso, is pursuing multiple projects right now.  He has his own project, The Mayor (they recorded a 4 track EP which is yet-to-be-released), and performed keyboards on the latest The Gay Blades album, Savages.  Mike Abiuso is also now playing keyboards live with The Gay Blades.

        Unknown Music Wednesday!!

So… tumblr, you think you guys know a lot of weird music?

Satellite by Kiss Kiss was featured on the extra CD placed in the debut My Chemical Romance album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. At the time MCR was signed with Eyeball Records who placed in the CD riddled with singles by the other bands that are also signed to the indie label.

Kiss Kiss has yet to reach stardom but they are a beautiful band and deserve a listen.

this is actually really good. why haven’t i heard of them before?!

        oh this is so good.

        The Mayor - Last Sunrise

This project features Mike Abiuso of Kiss Kiss (who recently announced a hiatus) and The Gay Blades (as of this summer) as well as James Ryan (guitar) & Kevin Otto (drums).

Their 4 song EP, Yani 101, will be released soon.

Find the bodies of Kiss Kiss!
Come on Kids! Its easy, Its fun, and from far away you cannot smell the maggots.
        (AKA, our usual odor)

        I mean, what happened?

We went on a big national tour with The Venetia Fair and then Paper Chase, and then….

        *POOF*

Well. We are alive. We have been home. We have been working ( crap jobs). We have been not talking to each other. You know, usual band shit.

Here is a Q and A of frequent questions we have been receiving.

        Q) Did you guys break up? I heard you did!
        A) No. We are on Hiatus.

        Q) Will you play shows anytime soon?
        A) No. For the time being we are filling up our lives with various other things I will get too, but we do plan a big Kiss Kiss reunion tour in the future, I am sure by that point once all the bad hipster shit dies down people who can actually play their instruments and write interesting songs will be cherished once again, and by then we will have influenced all the kids now who looked up to and were inspired by our music, and we will tour bigger and harder then ever before.

        Q) Is it true the members in Kiss Kiss are all sterile and angry all the time? Kill babies and murder puppies with speech impediments?
        A) Yes. On a daily basis each and every member of Kiss Kiss will shoot blanks, hurt living helpless creatures, and curse God!

All joking aside, the 7 years we were not on Hiatus, we were really blessed with the best damn fans any band could have. You guys were hardcore about us, and we are hardcore about you. Most bands don’t have the level of committed fans almost a decade of Kiss Kiss was able to provide. You guys drove across states, put us up in your homes and hotels, took us on tours of your cities, sent us your poetry and songs, and became many of our closest friends. To this, THANK YOU ALL! So very much from the bottoms of our hearts.

Here is a moment we will always remember.

Thats right, you helped us win MTVU’s the freshman, and we ate cat food, covered ourselves in milk and vasoline, and danced in drag. So what now?
Well. 3 Members of Kiss Kiss have formed a new band, and the line up is even more unique then ever!!!!

        Josh (Kiss Kiss) - Piano/Synths/Vocals
Stephanie - Harp/Vocals (That is right, freaking HARP!)
        Rebecca (Kiss Kiss) - Violin/Vocals
James (Kiss Kiss ) - Upright Bass
        Ben - Drums/Percussion
Our 1st show will be at this years CMJ
October 19th at Alphabet lounge 7pm
(Band Name yet to grace our minds)
We will soon have some videos of our new songs, and hopefully will hit the studio early 2011.

So please, Book us. We will be ready soon!!!!
As for the other 2 Kiss Kisser’s
Mike is playing with The Gay Blades and his own band The Mayor.Jared moved to Chicago and is playing drums in Damiera.
And Josh is in another band with the Singer from Bigger Princess. That band is called Echoland and will have a CD out soon.
So, on our end, all is well!

Kiss Kiss was a magical band.We came to your town, rocked it, broke shit, and probably did something weird like wear a diaper, blow up fireworks, scream and dance? Sadly a hiatus was needed to get the creative juices flowing again. But fret not, Kiss Kiss is not dead, and if a great tour or show is offered, we will be on it like a fly on doody!

So til then.Much Love Fans! And stayed tuned for the new Project containing 3/5ths of us!

        Much Love
        JOSH
